Cesvi Tajikistan is urgently seeking a candidate for the position of DRR Expert/Project Assistance with experience in Disaster Risk Reduction to assist in the implementation of a school-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) project.
Cesvi, established in Italy in 1985, is a secular, independent organization, whose aim is to foster international cooperation and development worldwide. In Cesvi’s guiding principles, the ideals of human solidarity and social justice are transformed into concrete actions toward the achievement of inclusive, sustainable and tailor-made development.
Cesvi started its operations in Tajikistan in 2001, working mainly in Water and Sanitation, Environment and Natural Resources Management, Climate Change, Inclusive development, Culture and education, Prevention domestic violence. Gender equality principles and indicators are applied in all Cesvi’s projects as a crosscutting requirement.
Responsibilities and Tasks
l Provide support to the implementation of the project under the supervision of the Project Manager and the International DRR Expert;
l Engage in implementation of the project activities including but not limited to;
・ Establish working relations with Ministry of Education and Science and Committee of Emergency Service officials on school-based DRR issues;
・ Mobilize school Disaster Risk Management Committees;
・ Provide training to teachers and school parents on DRR:
・ Monitor the training of students by teachers;
・ Work with school officials and students to establish Youth DRR groups and support their activities;
・ Work with local officials, school officials and Cesvi engineer to conduct school safety assessment and implement mitigation measures;
・ Work with school Disaster Risk Management Committees to develop emergency preparedness plans, evacuation plans, warden and warning systems,
・ Work with school officials, PTA and school children to establish DRR centres;
・ Work with school officials to conduct drills and simulations in schools;
・ Review, modify and adapt written guidance on school safety assessment methodologies and disaster management methodology:
・ Develop information brochures on DRR for students, etc.
l Provide translation at meetings and of documents translate to/from Tajik/Russian to/from English;
l Draft project documents and monitoring reports, etc.
· Experience in or knowledge of Disaster Risk Reduction/Management;
· Over five years experience working on programs for an international or national non-governmental organization in the field of education and/or Disaster Risk Reduction, prefer both;
· Experience in facilitating meetings and interactive training, preferably in the education sector;
· Excellent knowledge of English, Russian and Tajik languages, in both spoken and written forms;
· Strong communication skills, preferably with experience working with government officials;
· University degree in pedagogy, natural resources management or similar;
· Ability to draft high-quality reports in English:
· Ability to use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel, etc.
The assignment is a full-time post expected to start in October 2016. Subject to satisfactory performance, the period of employment may be extended up to June 2017. Please note that it is a project-based post, and does not imply continued employment with Cesvi after the end of the contract period.
